This CD of Latin songs, Quizas Quizas Quizas,
is the first for the trio, Los Trovadores del Caribe. The
three men, Miguel A. Magana, Efren Calderon and Mariano
Leal Escrivan live and work in Playa del Carmen, Mexico,
a Caribbean coastal town on the Yucatan Peninsula, about
forty five miles south of Cancun. The musicians earn their
living by playing in the restaurants, clubs and hotels of
the area. We hope you enjoy listening to the music of this
trio playing the classic songs, with their own instruments,
in the "Bolero, Rumba and Tropical style" The
CD comes with printed lyrics, in both Spanish and English,
for all 25 songs. This is a very nice feature for a non-Spanish
speaking person, so you enjoy the pleasant words of the
songs.
About the musicians
The trio did not start out playing music together. They
were from three different hometowns in Mexico and played
in various other groups during the "Rock and Roll"
years. They feel that for "reasons of destiny"
they all ended up in Playa del Carmen, where they met and
formed Los Trovadores.
Miguel is lead vocalist and plays rhythm guitar. Efren is
lead guitarist and backup vocalist. Efren also has an original
song on the CD. Mariano plays percussion and does backup
vocals.
As is inherent to any Phosphorus Alights Music project,
the recording artists get to choose the songs they want
to record, as well as how the songs are to be arranged (see
Philosophy). So, the trio had much input into the success
of this CD through their choice of songs and the use of
their own instruments.
Production Background
This CD was produced by Phosphorus Alights, a young entertainment
production company based in Los Angeles, California. While
on vacation in late 2003, former Phosphorous Alights partner,
Fred Riskin, heard the trio play in Playa del Carmen, and
had an impulse to record the musicians. He asked the trio
if they were interested and indeed they were. Fred returned
to his hometown of Los Angeles, and he presented the idea
to Warren Metzler, owner of Phosphorus Alights. Warren agreed
to proceed and the project resulted in the production of
Quizas Quizas Quizas, the second CD produced by Phosphorus
Alights Music.
In October of 2004, this CD was recorded at La Chicharra
recording studio in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
Post-Production: Work done at Monkeyland Audio, Glendale,
CA

Philosophy of Phosphorus Alights Music
(notes from the Producer)
The producer believes that music is meant to "provide
an aesthetic experience: as you listen to music you are
to have an experience of beauty and refinement, you are
to experience enjoyment".
Furthermore, "the optimal environment in which to hear
music is a live performance. However, it is not possible
for any one musician, or group of musicians, to play a live
performance for everyone in the world each time a person
wants to hear that musician's music. So music recordings
provide a reasonable alternative."
Phosphorus Alights Music endeavors to make
recordings which sound as close to a live performance as
is technically possible. And there are a few basic guidelines
they follow to achieve this goal:
-The musicians determine which songs and
which song arrangements are recorded.
-Each song is repeatedly recorded until the musicians are
content with their performances
-A recording location is chosen which offers good acoustics
-Always have one of the microphones used to record be a
Neuman Dummyhead KU100, because it captures a stereo three-dimensional
sound.
(Each musician had a microphone for his vocals and one for
his instrument).
-In the post-production, keep the processing
to a minimum. The goal is a high fidelity sound that is
as close to the original sound as possible.
"Hopefully, each person who listens
to this CD agrees that this goal was achieved."
Happy Listening.
